Dennis Maberry's Rhythmspirit Rhythmspirit is an all percussion ensemble playing songs and rhythms inspired by African, Afro Cuban, Haitian, and Middle Eastern drumming traditions. Rhythmspirit are drummers/percussionists Dennis Maberry , Jimi Comfort, and Claudia Fabien along with the dynamic dancing of Therese Wyatt and the beautiful voice of Kerry Archer Dennis Maberry Dennis is a versatile percussionist who has studied a variety of percussion methods from African, Afro Cuban, Haitian, and Middle Easter traditions, By blending these influences he has created a rhythmical style that is distinctively his own. ..... He is the author of the popular instructional book "Drum Circle Grooves" featuring a foreword by Arthur Hull “Father of the Modern Drum Circle Movement”.. .Dennis’ latest cd "Rhythmspirit" features special guests Babatunde Olatunji Drums of Passion member Gordy Ryan, Conga Joy author Bill Matthews, frame drum master Judy Piazza. and master percussionist Tor Dietrichson (from the legendary Diga Rhythm Band led by Mickey Hart) on percussion and featuring musician Joel Hinkle on didgeridoo .... Besides percussion based music Dennis is also active in other genres. Dennis has played with several of the Midwest Top Musicians including playing regularly for several years with Bill Laymon (New Riders of the Purple Sage, David Nelson Band, Kingfish) and as a special guest sitting in with acoustic favorite Tom Irwin, Black Magic Johnson, Perfunctory This Band, and Celtic Rock group Emerald Underground..... He has also played and/or recorded with a variety of musicians from several popular Midwest groups including NIL8, Enamel, the Suitcase Nukes, the Sarah Schneider Band, and the Bourbon Bluegrass Band, among others Jimi Comfort Jimi's rhythmic studies involve several years of study with Dennis Maberry. He has also attended workshops at the Seattle World Rhythm Festival with several great drummers including Olatunji Drums of Passion member Gordy Ryan and Conga Joy author Bill Matthews. Rhythm styles played include African, Afro Cuban, Haitian, and Middle Eastern. Jimi is a founding member of "Dennis Maberry's Rhythmspirit" and has appeared on Dennis Maberry's cd releases "Rhythms is the Key" and "Rhythmspirit" Claudia Fabien Claudia has studied drumming with Dennis Maberry for three years in addition to attending workshops at the World Rhythm Festival with several great drummers including Drums of Passion member Gordy Ryan and Conga Joy author Bill Matthews. Drumming styles played include African, Afro Cuban and Haitian Therese Wyatt Therese is the leader of the very popular dance troupe "The Daughters of the Dance. She has studied with a variety of teachers including Virginia, Yousry and Nourhan, Vashti, Suhaila, Amel Tafsout, Karim Nagi, Kay Hardy Campbell, Rachel Brice, Kami Little, Laurel Victoria, Artemis Mourat, Daveed Korup, Raquy Danzinger, She teaches the Black Sheep Tribal style dance as created by Kajira Djoumahna's. She is a featured dancer on Kajira Djoumahna's instructional DVD's, Therese has taught the Black Sheep Format throughout the US including Tribal Fest 11 and 12 Kerry Archer We are pleased to welcome the newest addition to the group. Kerry's beautiful voice has added a new dimension to the music of Rhythmspirit. Kerry was just recently introduced to the drumming and rhythmic cultures that have influenced the sound of Rhythmspirit and has developed a great love and respect for the music and it shines through in her performances.
